The 2023 Asian Games men’s football tournament kicked off on September 19 and is set to conclude on October 7 in Hangzhou, China.
This prestigious event sees 21 national teams vying for the highly sought-after gold medal. These teams have been strategically grouped, with hosts China, India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh forming Group A. Group B consists of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Mongolia. In Group C, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong are competing after Afghanistan and Syria withdrew. Group D comprises Japan, Palestine, and Qatar, while Group E includes South Korea, Bahrain, Thailand, and Kuwait. Group F features North Korea, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, and Kyrgyzstan.
Following a round-robin format, each team will face the others in their group once. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams from all groups, will progress to the round of 16.
The defending champions, South Korea, are aiming to retain their title after their victory in Indonesia in 2018. In a thrilling final, they defeated Japan 2-1 to claim the coveted trophy.
