Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women’s blind cricket team for etching their names in history at the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) World Games held in Birmingham. The team, led by Sushma Patel, exhibited exceptional prowess by triumphing over Australia with a resounding 9-wicket victory in the rain-affected final, securing the coveted gold medal. The Australian side was restricted to a modest total of 114/8 in their allocated 20 overs, with India chasing down the revised target of 42 within a mere four overs.

In a gesture of commendation, Prime Minister Modi took to social media to applaud the remarkable feat accomplished by the “women in blue” on the global stage of the IBSA World Games.

Australia’s innings stumbled from the outset as they lost their maiden wicket in the fourth over while batting first. India capitalized with two more crucial wickets in the eighth and ninth overs, restricting Australia to a score of 39/3.

C Lewis and C Webeck provided a stabilizing partnership for Australia, amassing 54 runs. However, India swiftly regrouped, capturing wickets at regular intervals and limiting the Australian total to a modest 114/8 within the stipulated 20 overs.

Following a rain-induced pause, the Indian team was set a revised target of 42 runs as per the Duckworth-Lewis method. The “women in blue” launched a spirited assault against their Australian counterparts, effortlessly achieving the target in a mere 3.3 overs with an impressive 9 wickets still in hand.
