Mohammed Siraj Regains Top Spot in ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has once again claimed the coveted number one position in the ICC Men’s ODI player rankings for bowlers. This resurgence in rankings followed his outstanding performance in the final of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023.

Siraj had previously held the top spot in January of this year but was temporarily displaced by Australian speedster Josh Hazlewood in March. His remarkable display in the Asia Cup final, where he took six crucial wickets and helped dismiss hosts Sri Lanka for a mere 50 runs, paved the way for India’s resounding victory by ten wickets, clinching the title.

Several other bowlers witnessed upward movements in the rankings, including Afghanistan’s spin twins Mujeeb-ur Rahman, who climbed two places to fourth, and Rashid Khan, who advanced three places to fifth.

Turning our attention to the batting rankings, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and England’s Dawid Malan emerged as standout performers. Klaasen’s phenomenal innings of 174 runs against Australia during the ODI series propelled him into the top 10 rankings for the first time. Meanwhile, Dawid Malan secured the 13th position in the rankings, courtesy of his impressive tally of 277 runs in three matches against New Zealand.

The batting rankings also saw Ben Stokes making significant gains, as he ascended 13 spots to the 36th position. This surge in rankings came after Stokes recorded England’s highest-ever individual score of 182 runs at The Oval, solidifying his reputation as a formidable batting force in the ODI format.
