In an electrifying match in Pune, India secured their fourth consecutive World Cup win by defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets. Virat Kohli’s exceptional performance and unbeaten century were the highlight of the day. Kohli reached his century in style with a six against spinner Nasum Ahmed, leading India to victory with more than eight overs to spare. His century, the third in four innings, played a crucial role in India’s successful chase of the 257-run target.
The foundation for India’s victory was laid by the opening partnership of 88 runs between skipper Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (53). Rohit’s aggressive intent was evident when he smashed a cover-driven four off Shoriful Islam. Kohli, on the other hand, showcased his brilliance with a free-hit four and a sublime straight six off consecutive Mahmud deliveries, setting the tone for India’s chase.

Earlier, spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja triggered a top-order collapse for Bangladesh, reducing them from a promising 93 without loss to 137-4. Despite a resilient effort from Tanzid Hasan, who scored his maiden ODI fifty, and Liton Das (66), Bangladesh was restricted to 256-8. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah contributed significantly, but without their regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan, sidelined due to injury, Bangladesh struggled to set a challenging target.
India’s triumphant performance catapults them ahead in the tournament, setting the stage for their upcoming clash against New Zealand in Dharamsala this Sunday. Meanwhile, Bangladesh faces a challenging contest, preparing to battle South Africa in Mumbai on Tuesday.
