In the thrilling javelin throw event at the Diamond League 2023 Final held in Eugene, Oregon, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra secured the second position with an impressive throw of 83.80m. The competition was fierce, with none of the athletes managing to cross the 85m mark. The title was ultimately clinched by Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, who delivered a remarkable performance with a throw measuring 84.24m.
Neeraj Chopra, who had previously made history as the first Indian to win a Diamond League Trophy, was unable to defend his title at the prestigious Hayward Field. Jakub Vadlejch, a former Diamond League champion in 2016 and 2017, secured his third title with his outstanding throw.
The event saw Neeraj Chopra making a strong comeback after a foul on his first attempt. With his second throw, he achieved a distance of 83.80m, propelling himself to the second position behind Jakub Vadlejch, who started with an 84.01m effort.
Despite an 81.37m throw on the third attempt and another foul from Neeraj Chopra, Jakub Vadlejch managed to maintain his lead, despite both athletes having only one legal throw from their first four attempts.
Jakub Vadlejch, who had previously defeated Neeraj Chopra at the Zurich Diamond League last month, secured his victory with his final attempt.

Finland’s Oliver Helander claimed the third spot with a throw measuring 83.74m.

Two-time world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada finished in sixth place with a throw measuring 74.71m.
Leading up to the final event in Eugene, Neeraj Chopra had a successful run, winning the Doha and Lausanne legs of the 2023 Diamond League series. He secured the second position in Zurich. His impressive performances earned him 23 points from three meetings, while Jakub Vadlejch, who competed in all four qualifying events, topped the leaderboard with 29 points.

European Games champion Julian Weber, with 25 points, came second in the Diamond League series but missed the final due to injury.
The Diamond League Final marked one of Neeraj Chopra’s key appearances this season. His next challenge will be defending his title at the Asian Games 2023, which is scheduled to commence in Hangzhou later this month.
