CELEBRATING UMEH YADAV’S BIRTHDAY: Umesh Yadav stands as an emblem of inspiration for aspiring cricketers who aspire to don the Blue jersey but face resource limitations. Originating from Nagpur, Umesh initially aspired to be a police officer and made attempts to join the Indian army. Failing in these endeavors, the son of a coal miner shifted his focus to cricket as a means to make a living. Tailor-made to be a fast bowler, Umesh commenced his cricketing journey in the domestic circuit with Vidarbha, making his Ranji Trophy debut in 2008 against Madhya Pradesh.

In the early stages of his career, consistently bowling in the 140s became Umesh Yadav trademark. His exceptional performances in first-class cricket caught the attention, leading to his first IPL contract with Delhi Daredevils in 2010. The same year marked his international debut in an ODI against Zimbabwe.
The eagerly awaited Test call-up came the following year during India’s series against West Indies. Over the years, Umesh Yadav transformed into one of the leading red-ball pacers of his generation. As of now, he has represented India in 75 ODIs and 57 Tests, claiming 106 and 170 wickets in the respective formats.
(1.) 3-37 & 3-22 vs South Africa, 2019:
Umesh Yadav showcased his lethal bowling skills during India’s historic whitewash against South Africa in 2019. In the second Test in Pune, he wreaked havoc with the new ball, grabbing three wickets in both innings. India posted a massive 606 runs, and South Africa, in reply, was bundled out for 275 runs, leading to a follow-on. The match ended with India’s victory by an innings and 137 runs.
(2.) 6-88 & 4-45 vs West Indies, 2018:
In a home Test against West Indies in 2008, Umesh Yadav impressed with his exceptional bowling, taking 10 wickets across both innings. Six wickets came in the visitors’ first innings, marking his best-ever spell in a Test innings. India’s dominant performance resulted in a 72-run target in the fourth innings, leading to a victory by 10 wickets.
(3.) 5-93 vs Australia, 2012:
During India’s challenging tour of Australia in 2012, Umesh Yadav’s remarkable performance stood out. In the third Test in Perth, he claimed a five-wicket haul in Australia’s only innings, surprising the home crowd. Despite his efforts, India lost the match by an innings and 37 runs.
(4.) 4-31 vs Bangladesh, 2015:
In the 2015 ODI World Cup quarter-final, Umesh Yadav delivered his best-ever bowling figures in the 50-over format. He dismissed Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal early in his spell and further dismantled the opposition middle order, finishing with three wickets. India secured a comfortable 109-run victory, advancing to the semi-final.

(5.) 4-23 vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2022:
During the 2022 IPL season while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, Umesh Yadav showcased his brilliance against Punjab Kings in Mumbai. He claimed a career-best IPL figure, picking up four wickets for just 23 runs. His outstanding performance restricted Punjab Kings to 137 runs, enabling Kolkata to chase down the target effortlessly.
