On this memorable evening, Shericka Jackson from Jamaica, aiming to challenge or even surpass the women’s world 200m record of 21.34 seconds, managed to achieve a remarkable Diamond League record of 21.48 seconds. However, the spotlight truly belonged to the 22-year-old Norwegian sensation, who triumphed over time itself during the final 600 meters of his race, setting a new world record of 4:43.13 in the process.

The excitement did not end there, as Sweden’s world and Olympic pole vault champion, Mondo Duplantis, took center stage in the midst of the hot and humid conditions. He made three valiant attempts to better his own world record, aiming for a tantalizing height of 6.23 meters, with the final effort coming agonizingly close.

For Jakob Ingebrigtsen, this victory marked his first outdoor world record. The 22-year-old had previously set a world indoor 1500m record of 3:30.60 the previous year. At this season’s Paris Diamond League meeting, he had also achieved a two-mile world best of 7:54.10.

After experiencing the setback of back-to-back defeats to British athletes in world 1500m finals, Ingebrigtsen underwent a remarkable resurgence. He bounced back impressively, retaining his world 5000m title in Budapest, followed by a period of rest in his hometown of Sandnes before embarking on further extraordinary athletic endeavors.

As he prepared to start the race, Ingebrigtsen raised a solitary finger into the air, a gesture that symbolized his singular focus and determination, despite the absence of any significant wind conditions to contend with.
